Safe Sleeping Rules from the CPSC
(Consumer Product Safety Commission)
For infants under 12 months of age, follow these practices to reduce
the risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) and prevent suffocation:
- Place baby on his/her back in a crib with a firm, tight-fitting mattress.
- Do not put pillows, quilts, comforters, sheepskins, pillow-like bumper
pads or pillow-like stuffed toys in the crib.
- Consider using a sleeper instead of a blanket.
- If you do use a blanket, place baby with feet to foot of the crib.
Tuck a thin blanket around the crib mattress, covering baby only as
high as his/her chest.
- Use only a fitted bottom sheet specifically made for crib use.
- Make sure your baby's head remains uncovered during sleep.
- Do not place baby on a waterbed, sofa, soft mattress, pillow or other
soft surface to sleep.
Best Uses of Soothing Squares Baby
Snuggle Blanket During Infant's First Year
- After each washing snuggle with the Blankie for a few hours, or sleep
with it overnight, to give your little one the comfort of your scent.
Research shows this to have a calming effect on infants, induce better
sleep patterns and help baby to adjust to the outside world.
- Then, during tummy time, or whenever baby is laying on, or swaddled
in, the Blankie, they'll feel your presence even though you're not holding
them.
- During feeding time place the Blankie between baby and you. Then,
when baby goes to another caregiver, they can use the Blankie in the
same fashion, making the transition to a new person easier on the little
one.
- Hang the blankie on the seatback of the car for baby to focus on during
carrides. Focusing not only helps strengthen babies' eyes, but also
gives them constancy in seeing the Blankie, which becomes a comfort
object in changing environments.

Baby Blankets During Toddler Years and Beyond
- Having a security blanket is natural and demonstrates a toddler's
step toward developing independence.
- Bringing blankie to daycare strengthens your parent-child bond, giving
your little one security when you're not able to be there.
- Use Blankets for nap, transition to bedtime, as a comfort when he
or she gets a boo-boo, when overnighting at Grandma's or a hotel, and
many other situations.
